The Learning Centre
ABOUT THE LEARNING CENTER (LC)
The Learning Center provides cross-curricular support for students who have an IEP or an IPRC and are in the regular Program at GRCI. The support is delivered either through a Learning Strategies course (GLE 101, 201, 301, or 401), a non-credit timetabled period in the LC (Kenann), or by resource withdrawal - depending upon the student’s needs. The goal is to help the students be successful at attaining high school credits leading to a diploma by fostering independent learning, organizational, literacy, and math skills.
The Learning Center uses a collaborative approach to help students develop organizational, time management, self-advocacy and learning strategies which will meet their individual needs and lead to academic success.

Each week students are given a "required assignment" that must be completed in class by the end of the week. The assignments are designed to improve literacy, math, organization and study skills so that students can be successful in their courses. Topics are high interest and focus on such things as school issues, current events and career exploration. Additionally, a spelling test is given each week during the last GLE class. The remainder of the time is spent on mastering course work.
