Dear families of Grand River Collegiate Institute (GRCI),

Today, our staff were made aware of some graffiti inside school property that was threatening and made reference to an act of violence. The message read, “Dear all GRCI Students hearing about all these school shooting/bomb threats is awful. Its made very depressed. Instead of all the other ones being jokes I am serious. I will be shooting the school tues April 3rd BE READY GRAND THIS ISN’T A JOKE.” We immediately reported this threat to the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) and they are currently investigating to determine the author and validity of the message. Additionally, the note has the appearance of an attempt to erase it.

The safety and well-being of our GRCI students and staff is a top priority. As always in situations like these, we are working closely with our police partners.

We want to echo the statements from our board that it is unacceptable to make threats, written or verbal, towards anyone. Our students have the right to learn in a safe environment without fear. No matter the intention, we take any threat of violence seriously and the authors of these threats will be held accountable.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 ext. 4421 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

We will continue to work closely with WRPS to investigate these threats and continue to keep our schools safe places to learn. Please feel free to call the GRCI Administration at 519-576-5100 with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Jim Woolley, Principal
