Welcome back Renegades to the 2017-18 School year!

Welcome to our Grade 9 students and to their families:

I hope this letter finds you enjoying the summer and that you are excited about beginning secondary school. I am also very excited about joining the Grand River family as your new Principal.

The 2017-2018 school year starts on Tuesday, September 5th.   We have planned our first day of school around you.  The morning is designed to give you another opportunity to tour the building, meet staff, reconnect with your friends and peers and celebrate the start of school with a BBQ.  In the afternoon you along with the rest of the students will attend their classes beginning at 11:50 a.m.  Please note that Student Transportation will follow its normal schedule.

In this mail out you are receiving your Student Data Verification Form (DVF), Use of Personal Information Form (IS-09-L-S), your Timetable, and information regarding Chromebook1:1 initiative for grade 9 students.  I encourage you to check out our website:  http://grc.wrdsb.ca/ for specific details and to learn other information about the school.  Parents and students consider subscribing to our website to get up to date posts and information.  Please also refer to the “Back to School” button on the website for other important school start-up materials.

Please ensure that on September 5th you arrive to school with your updated and signed Student Data Verification Form, signed Use of Personal Information Form and your signed Chromebook 1:1 Contract. 

Grand River Collegiate uses School-Day–an online cashless and communication system.  School-Day can be accessed from any web browser and gives you real-time access to up-to-date information and the ability to:  receive communication, approve permission forms online; register for extracurricular events, make online payments for student cards, sports fees, yearbooks, trips or other activities.  If you are not a School-Day user, please follow the link on our website for more information.  If you already use School-Day please add Grand River to your schools.  At Grand River we only accept payments on School-Day or in cash.  We do not accept cheques.

Guidance Counsellors will be available starting August 28th between 8:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m.  If you require changes to your timetable, please report to the Guidance Office with your timetable between August 28th—August 31st to speak to your Guidance Counsellor.  There will be no timetable/course change requests in September, so please come in to the school during the above scheduled dates.

Please ensure that if your son or daughter has an anaphylaxis condition that this is recorded in the medical section of the DVF.  Please include the trigger (food, bee sting, etc.) and if the student carries a personal Epipen. These students are to report to the Main Office between 11:30 a.m.—12:00 p.m. on Opening Day to pick up an additional documentation package required by the Waterloo Regional District School Board.

Parents, please plan on attending our Grade 9 Info Night on Wednesday, September 13th.  Please look to our website the first week of school for specific details.

This letter provides you with some information regarding the first day of school—September 5th.  I encourage you to check out our website:  http://grc.wrdsb.ca/ for specific details and to learn other information about the school.  Parents and students should consider subscribing to our website to get up to date posts and information.  Please also refer to the “Back to School” button on the website for other school start-up materials.

The 2017-2018 school year starts on Tuesday, September 5th.    Please refer to the information contained in the “Back to School” button for the First Day Schedule.   All grade 10 to 12 students will attend their classes beginning at 11:50 a.m.  Students in our Life Skills and Developmental Education Classes will have a full day of instruction, beginning at 8:15 a.m.  Please note that Student Transportation will follow its normal schedule.

Please review the Student Data Verification Form (DVF) and make any changes/updates in pen and have your parent/guardian sign itThe main office will be open from August 28 to August 31 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for students to hand in their signed DVF prior to school starting.  Those students who take advantage of this opportunity will receive their timetable prior to the first day of school.  Students with outstanding textbooks are also asked to clear up these issues prior to the start of school.

If unavailable on the above August dates, students will receive their timetables in their Period A class on September 5th in exchange for their signed DVF.  Students can find their Period A class by checking the posted lists located in the main foyer.  Students without a period A class are to report to the main office.
