December 16th, 2017
For the 26th year in a row, Grand River Collegiate Institute (GRCI) welcomed members of the community for their annual student and senior Christmas tea.
More than 165 seniors from various retirement homes in the area were treated to an afternoon filled with the musical talents of students and staff, as well as holiday treats prepared by GRCI’s hospitality classes.
This annual event is an amazing example of how giving back to our community can be a simple act of giving our time or our talents.
Over 400 GRCI students volunteered their time in various roles, such as musicians, performers, servers, decorators, organizers, Santa helpers and many others. In addition, more than 30 staff members volunteered their time to facilitate this great community outreach event.
This wonderful tradition gives our students an opportunity to make connections with seniors in their community and learn about the various aspects of planning an event.
A special thank you to the Rotary Club of Kitchener Grand River and Southwest Optimist Club and many other community partners for their ongoing support and commitment to making this annual event a success. This fun afternoon would not be possible without their contributions.
We are counting down 12 days of giving where we feature some of the wonderful acts of kindness our staff and students are modelling during the holiday season.
You can check out all of the great acts of giving in our schools (there’s more than just 12) by following us on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
