Dear Grand River Collegiate Institute families,
I want to make you aware of a situation that affected our school today. Around 9:10 am, I directed our school into a hold and secure.
As part of our hold and secure protocol, students and staff remained inside and all exterior doors were locked so no one could enter or exit the building. An individual of concern was on school property and attempted to enter the school. When the individual saw a staff member they left school property and entered a vehicle that pulled up along Indian Rd. Staff called 911 immediately, Waterloo Region Police Services (WRPS) arrived to help resolve the situation.
Our school remained on hold and secure for approximately 30 minutes until we were assured by WRPS that it was safe to unlock exterior doors and allow for students and staff to leave the building.
We will always take every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We want to thank our partners at WRPS for helping to keep our schools safe places to learn.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
Sincerely,
Josh Windsor
Principal
