In Ontario, the final grade for a course is composed of a mandatory weighting by the Ministry of Education, with 30% of the course being based on a final evaluation, and 70% of the grade based on evaluations that have happened throughout the semester.
For the last 5 school years, Grade 9 and 10 students have not had mandatory evaluations during the four designated final evaluations/exam days at the end of the semester. This evaluation policy is changing this year. Grade 9 and 10 students in compulsory courses will have an in-class component and a scheduled final evaluation, which may be an examination or another evaluation product.
Beginning this school year, GRCI grade 9 and 10 students will have mandatory structured Final Evaluations in the special schedule at the end of semester for the following compulsory courses:
| Grade 9 | Grade 10 |
| CGC1W – Geography | CHC2D – History |
| SNC1W – Science | SNC2D – Science |
| MTH1W – Math | MPM2D – Math |
| ENL1W – English | ENG2D – English |
| FSF1D/FEF1D/FIF1D – French |
The dates for these final evaluations this school year, for all grades are as follows.
- Sem 1: Jan. 23, 26, 27, 28, and
- Sem 2: June 19, 22, 23, 24.
The exact date of an evaluation will be determined by the scheduled daily class, with one period on each day. For example; a student has ENL1W in block A, they will be required to come to an evaluation/exam day on Jan 23rd.
Attendance is mandatory for students for whom a final evaluation is scheduled in a course. Further information regarding the details of the evaluation days at the end of semester will be provided at a later date.
Questions may be directed to the GRCI administrative team. Additional information on final evaluation changes may be found on the WRDSB website.
