Welcome to GRCI Mathematics
At GRCI our math teachers are dedicated to helping students be prepared for the next level. Our grade 9 destreamed & 10 single-streamed courses are designed to expand student’s mathematical knowledge, skills, and strategies and help them choose a pathway into the senior math courses that fits their goals. Our senior math courses are designed to expand a student’s mathematical toolkit even further, and help ensure success beyond high school, whether that be in a postsecondary program or the world of work.

Keys to Success in Mathematics
Everyone has different likes & dislikes and different strengths & weaknesses. To help get the most out of a student’s mathematics education and maximize their chance of success, here are some rules that a student can follow.
- Pay close attention to your teacher in class. Avoid distractions that will take your attention away from the important information, instructions, and strategies that your teacher may be giving you.
- Be engaged in class. Be a “doer”, not an “observer”. Active participation and engagement will go a long way to help understand mathematical concepts. Try to think about answers to questions yourself, before another student or the teacher answers them for you. And of course, always do the assigned tasks that your teacher has carefully designed to help you both learn the concepts and demonstrate your understanding.
- Do all practice exercises that your teacher recommends that you should do. Some mathematical skills (particularly those at the senior level) will take time and practice to master. Your teacher has put a lot of thought into what and how much should be done to maximize the likelihood of mastery; take advantage of your teacher’s expertise and do the practice he/she has recommended.
- Get extra help whenever you are struggling with a concept. All of our math teachers at GRCI are happy to help students better understand what they are learning, both in and outside of class time.
Math Pathways
The varied number of math courses we offer provide a LOT of different paths from grade 9 to 12. The image below shows the various paths, indicating the prerequisites required for each course. Students and caregivers are recommended to talk to their counsellor and their math teacher for assistance in selecting the pathway that fits their goals.
Enrichment
Students are encouraged to join GRCI’s STEM Google Classroom to get information and participate in the variety of enrichment opportunities offered by the math, science, and technology departments. The code for the google classroom can be obtained from any math, science, or tech teacher or from counselling.
